ONYX & RUBY GALA BEGINS SERIES OF CELEBRATIONS TO HONOR UC STARS
|
Recognizing the achievements of our alumni is an essential part of celebrating the enduring legacy of the University of Cincinnati and the remarkable impact of our graduates. Each year, we have the privilege of honoring the exceptional accomplishments of our alumni, who continue to make a difference in their fields and communities. These celebrations not only allow us to reflect on their success but also bring joy and inspiration to our entire UC family. These spring recognition events include the Onyx & Ruby Gala, Chicagoans for Cincy! Celebration, Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards, the UC Alumni Celebration, and a variety of others. Through these inspirational programs, we shine a well-deserved spotlight on those whose journeys serve as powerful examples of perseverance, excellence and leadership. Our African American Alumni Affiliate (4A) will host the 11th annual Onyx & Ruby Gala at Great American Ball Park on Saturday, Feb. 22. This event is a cornerstone for the UC Alumni Association’s Black History Month activities. This festive occasion hails the collective accomplishments of our Black UC family and six deserving award recipients, led by Georgia E. Beasley Legacy Award honoree Eric Broyles, Esq., UCBA ’90, Bus ’92; and Dr. Lawrence C. Hawkins Tower of Strength Award honoree Alvin H. Crawford, MD, Hon ’18. Importantly, this premier event has a vital secondary purpose — to generate support for the Shani Scholarship that helps students travel internationally for co-op or study abroad.
Continuing with the theme of recognizing tremendous Bearcats, we have also just announced our slate of honorees for the 2025 UC Alumni Celebration, which showcases alumni excellence through 18 alumni representing the full spectrum of the university. Highlighting the group are William Howard Taft Medalist Darrell D. Miller, Esq., CCM ’85, who has built a stellar career as a dealmaker and representative in the entertainment and media industry; and Phil D. Collins, Bus ’89, our Robert E. Dobbs Distinguished Service Award honoree for his selfless work on behalf of his alma mater. This special cohort of Bearcat standouts will be celebrated Thursday, April 10, at Cincinnati Music Hall.

In our busy lives, it is important to pause and appreciate what excellence and achievement look like, and these signature events allow us to do just that. In too many ways to count, the world is a better place because there are so many UC alumni making a difference, and we are proud to spotlight these wonderful Bearcats.
Go Bearcats!
